This will be the second time that Real Madrid and Galatasaray face off in the European Cup playoffs

Their previous meeting, which
was also in the quarterfinals,
took place in the 2000-2001
season and was won by Real
Madrid, which scored 3-0 at
home to overcome the 3-2
disadvantage of the first leg.

the lead in the playoff with goals
from Umit Davala, Hasan, and

In the second-leg match, on April
18, 2001, the Whites quickly
settled the score, needing only 37
minutes to make three goals and
decide the result in the Santiago
Bernabéu. Raúl, with a brace, and
Helguera were the goal-scoring
players. The Swede Anders Frisk
was the referee.
