Michu scores the first goal of the 2012/13 Premier League season

Swansea midfielder Michu scored the opening
goal of this season's Barclays Premier League on
his debut as the Swans took a 1-0 half-time lead
over QPR at Loftus Road.
The Spaniard saw his shot creep past goalkeeper
Robert Green after the ball popped up off Wayne
Routledge when he was tackled deep in QPR
territory in the eighth minute.
Green could have done better as the ball bounced
in front of him but the England international was
unable to control it as Swansea claimed the early
advantage.
Damian Duff opened Fulham's account at Craven
Cottage after the home side dominated the early
exchanges to lead 2-0 against Norwich at the
break.
The Republic of Ireland international latched on
to the end of John Arne Riise's diagonal long ball
from the left wing to fire home in the 25th minute
after Norwich's Andrew Surman saw his early
chance tipped round the post.
Mladen Petric headed the home side's second
with five minutes remaining in the first half.
Stoke took a 1-0 lead over Premier League new
boys Reading at the Madejski Stadium after a
goalkeeping error by Adam Federici.
Michael Kightly fired Tony Pulis' side into the
lead from close range with the ball slipping
through Federici's fingertips.
At the Hawthorns, new West Brom boss Steve
Clarke engineered a score against the club he left
last season as the Baggies led Liverpool 1-0 after
the first period.
Zoltan Gera drilled a shot past Pepe Reina just
before the break after Reds striker Luis Suarez
missed two great chances to give Liverpool the
lead.
West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster denied Suarez
with a fantastic save before the Uruguay
international headed over an open goal.
Kevin Nolan gave West Ham a 1-0 lead at half-
time over Aston Villa at Upton Park.
Nolan scored from close range in the 40th
minute from Ricardo Vaz Te's assist to edge the
Premier League new boys ahead
Arsenal dominated Sunderland at the Emirates
but were unable to find the breakthrough in the
first period despite strong work by Vassiriki
Diaby and new signing Lukas Podolski as they
were held at 0-0.

Real Madrid train in the Santiago Bernabéu

On Friday Real Madrid trained in the Santiago
Bernabéu for the first time in the 2012/2013
season to prepare for their official debut in
the current campaign. This Sunday the Whites
go up against Valencia on their home ground
(19:00, C+ Liga and Gol T) on the first day of
the Liga. It will be a clash in which the
reigning champion will face the team that
came third in the last Liga. José Mourinho led
the team's third training session of the week
in the same setting where the Real Madrid
players will kick off the championship.
The Whites' first training session of the season in
the Santiago Bernabéu took place in extremely hot
weather. It was the second day this week that José
Mourinho worked with the footballers that played
matches with their national sides. The training
session was composed of three groups that
worked separately. In the first, the three Whites
keepers, Casillas, Adán and Jesús, trained
alongside goalkeeping coach Silvino Louro,
working intensely both with and without the ball.
The second group was comprised of Benzema,
Cristiano Ronaldo, Özil, Di María, Higuaín,
Khedira, Arbeloa, Albiol and Coentrão. The nine
footballers were led in their session by Rui Faria,
who had them doing different stretches,
continuous running and various exercises.
Meanwhile, the other outfielder players took part
in an intense warm-up before working with the
ball. José Mourinho followed his footballers'
progress very carefully in what will be the setting
for the Whites' debut match.

Chelsea Transfer Rumors: Blues Shouldn't Agree to Ridiculous Price for Hulk

Hulk has been linked to Chelsea throughout the
transfer window, with the Blues and Porto unable
to come to an agreement. The latest rumor,
according to The Daily Star, is that Chelsea feels
they can secure Hulk for a transfer fee of £32m
instead of the £40m that Porto are asking.
At either price, Chelsea should pass on Hulk. It's
a ridiculous fee for a player that still has plenty to
prove. Hulk has played well for Porto at club level
and has been decent for the Brazilian national
team. While he would likely have a nice impact,
the fee is just too outrageous.
Hulk would be a decent signing for Chelsea if they
could secure his signature for around the same
price they got Oscar. Anything above £30m is just
too much for a 26-year-old player that hasn't
proved he can score goals in the Premier League.
While Hulk is overvalued, another part of the
equation is where he fits into the team. In
Roberto Di Matteo's new 4-2-3-1 formation,
Fernando Torres is the only man up front with
Hazard, Mata and Ramires as attacking
midfielders. Hulk would have to replace Ramires,
who has proved his worth and his extreme
versatility, even playing as a fourth defender
against Man City after Branislav Ivanovic's
sending off.
Ramires could move to the defensive midfield,
which would leave midfielders Oscar and Marko
Marin outside of the lineup. Such a move would
require Frank Lampard or John Obi Mikel to be
on the bench to make room for Ramires.
This summer, Chelsea have already spent £32m
on Eden Hazard and around £25m on Oscar. If
they are going to spend close to that on another
big talent, they are better off going after Napoli's
Edinson Cavani.
Lintao Zhang/Getty Images
Cavani's talent is undeniable. He has played
extremely well for his club throughout Serie A
and the Champions League. Chelsea knows this
firsthand, as Cavani was a nightmare during their
Round of 16 matchup, finishing the first leg with
a goal and two assists in a 3-1 Napoli win.
Chelsea's need is at striker. Cavani is strictly that
and plays the position in clinical fashion. With
the amount of games Chelsea has this season,
another striker behind Fernando Torres and
Daniel Sturridge is a necessity.
While Cavani would be a nice snag, Chelsea can
survive without either Hulk or the Uruguayan
forward. Victor Moses would be a nice addition
as a backup striker and, along with the
development of Lucas Piazon, could be enough to
keep Chelsea afloat.
With the amount of money put into the midfield,
that's where Chelsea will win or lose. If the
service is excellent, Torres or Strurridge are both
capable of scoring goals. They don't need to fork
over a huge transfer fee for the overvalued Hulk.

QPR close on Bosingwa deal

Bosingwa was released at the end of last season
after helping the Blues win a Champions League
and FA Cup double. And he could now be set to
cross the west London divide, with Rangers
interested in the ex-Portugal star.
Bosingwa joined Chelsea for around £16 million
four years ago and went on to win the Champions
League, Premier League, three FA Cups and the
Community Shield.
He had previously been part of Porto's 2004
Champions League squad.
Despite being so highly-decorated, the 29-year-
old came under fire for his defending throughout
his Stamford Bridge career and eventually
struggled to hold down a regular place in the
side.
He did manage to go out on a high, helping
successfully shackle Bayern Munich's Franck
Ribery in the Champions League final.
Otherwise, some of his better performances came
playing out of position, most notably at left-back
against Lionel Messi in the 2009 semi-final with
Barcelona and as an emergency centre-back in
this season's semi against the same opponents.
Inter Milan, Anzhi Makhachkala and Monaco have
all been linked with the defender but QPR may
now be in pole position to make him their eighth
summer signing.

Ronaldinho set to sign with Atletico Mineiro

SAO PAULO: Ronaldinho looks set to sign with
Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro less than a week
after leaving Flamengo and suing his former team
for unpaid wages.
Television images on Monday showed
Ronaldinho practicing with Atletico players in the
city of Belo Horizonte, and the press officer for
the 1971 Brazilian champion said the player is
going to be officially introduced after the training
session.
Details of the contract to be signed with Atletico
were not immediately released.
Atletico Mineiro is a traditional club in Brazil but
has not won any significant titles since the 1997
Conmebol Cup, a tournament it also won in
1992. It was relegated to Brazil's second division
in 2005 but won the title and returned to the top
flight the following year. It was the national
runner-up in 1999.
Ronaldinho's contract with Flamengo was
terminated by a judge last Thursday after he sued
the Brazilian club for reportedly $20 million in
unpaid wages and other rights.
Ronaldinho had said he wanted some time off to
take care of his sick mother, and most Brazilian
clubs said they did not intend to try to sign the
former two-time FIFA player of the year after his
recent poor performances with Flamengo.
Polls conducted by Brazilian media said most
fans didn't want to see their clubs trying to sign
Ronaldinho.
It was a different scenario when Ronaldinho
announced in 2010 that he was leaving AC Milan
to return to Brazilian football after a decade
thriving in European football, especially at
Barcelona.
The fight for the former Brazil star involved many
clubs and lasted several weeks until he
announced he was joining Flamengo to begin the
2011 season, in part because of the club's huge
fan base.
But after helping the club win that year's Rio de
Janeiro state championship and reach a berth in
the Copa Libertadores, Ronaldinho struggled with
a series of poor performances amid
controversies off the field.
Two months ago, Flamengo's biggest fan group
published a letter on its website criticizing
Ronaldinho and accusing him of being
unprofessional for his alleged appearances at
parties and nightclubs.
He had a confrontation with coach Vanderlei
Luxemburgo, forcing club directors to fire the
former Brazil and Real Madrid coach, and
recently he also seemed to be at odds with
current Flamengo coach Joel Santana, who used
to lead South Africa.
The club admitted it was having difficulties paying
for Ronaldinho's salary after ending its
partnership with sports marketing group Traffic,
which had paid most of his reported $700,000
monthly wages.
Flamengo had said it was surprised by
Ronaldinho's decision to leave and promised to
legally fight it.
Ronaldinho helped Brazil win the 2002 World
Cup in South Korea and Japan and was in the
team that was eliminated by France in the 2006
quarterfinals in Germany. He was not picked for
the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo - The fight between the two living legends:

Messi: "I respect Cristiano Ronaldo, but the truth
is that I have no relationship with him, just like I
don't have with many other players in this sport.
Basically, we just see each other on the football
pitches. Naturally, it doesn't happen the same
with my club and country teammates, as I am
very close to them", started by pointing out the
Barcelona's all-time top scorer.
Over the last seasons, both Ronaldo and Messi
have been breaking several all-time records, club
and world-wise. The idea that this virtual rivalry is
actually forcing the two players to raise their level
season after season doesn't seem very senseless,
however, Messi doesn't agree with this line of
thought, as he believes that the main force
behind his development as a player keeps being
his motivation towards his team's objectives.
Lionel Messi: "People have to realize that I'm not
competing against Cristiano Ronaldo on a
personal duel, or anything like that. All this
pretense rivalry is being fueled by the media, the
newspapers and everyone who profits from
sending out the idea that we have some sort of a
conflict to settle. I have never competed or fought
against Ronaldo. I just try to do my work the best
I can, hoping that things go well. My focus is to
always help my teams winning trophies and that's
it", remarked "La Pulga" (one of Messi's
nicknames).
Regarding those emerging incidents that we've all
been witnessing over the last couple of years,
where a significant amount of people in the
crowd decide to start shouting "Messi, Messi"
chants, during games where Ronaldo is playing
for either Real Madrid or Portugal and where
Messi isn't present, the Argentinian prefers to
defend himself and says that he has nothing to
do with it.
Lionel Messi: "I can only say that I am happy
with the way fans treat me in every stadium.
Obviously, I'm not the one organizing those
chants and there's simply nothing I can do to
prevent or stop them. I don't have anything to do
with it and therefore I don't want to comment it.
I've never been in that situation and I can't know
what Cristiano Ronaldo feels when it happens...",
stated the Argentinian star when addressing the
issue of Ronaldo being provoked with chants
invoking Messi name.
As for the FIFA Balon d'Or 2012 award, set to be
delivered on January 2013, Messi assures that it
would make him very happy to see one of his
Barcelona's teammates winning it. However, the
Argentinian recognizes it's still a very open race
and that Real Madrid players like Cristiano
Ronaldo or Iker Casillas can also have a say on
this matter.
Messi: "I would be delighted if the winner ends
up being one of my teammates from Barcelona
[Xavi Hernandez or Andrés Iniesta], who have
been winning important trophies at international
level, such as the European Championship in
2012 and the World Cup in 2010. However, there
are obviously other strong names on the list as it
is the case of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is a great
player, and also Iker Casillas. My preference lies
on Xavi and Iniesta though, since they are both
good friends of mine", stated Lionel Messi.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid will kickoff
their season against Valencia CF, at the Santiago
Bernabéu this Sunday night (19th of August,
2012). In the meanwhile, you can watch Real
Madrid vs Valencia, Arsenal vs Sunderland, WBA
vs Liverpool and Newcastle vs Tottenham from

» Lionel Messi: "I'm not competing against Cristiano Ronaldo"

Everyone is getting set and ready for the new
season, as the Spanish League is about to
kickoff this weekend. The two biggest football
stars on the planet, Cristiano Ronaldo and
Lionel Messi, will go head to head once again,
pursuing new records and trying to lead their
teams to glory in both La Liga and the UEFA
Champions League. Talking to an Argentinian
newspaper, Messi assured he doesn't have any
particular duel with Ronaldo...
Lionel Messi granted an interview to the popular
Argentinian newspaper "Olé", on which he
claims that he's not competing in any sort of
personal duel against Cristiano Ronaldo and that
what drives him is the desire of helping his teams
to win trophies and obtain success. The
Argentinian star also noted that he doesn't have
a relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo, just like
he doesn't have with many other players who
don't play on the same team as him. As for the
"Messi, Messi" chants that Cristiano Ronaldo is
often victim of across several stadiums around
the World, the Barcelona forward remembered
that he's not the one who organizes them, and
that there's nothing he can do about that issue...

Tainted: Torres doesn't feel like he played much of a role for Chelsea last season

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres had such a
difficult time last season that he has struggled to
enjoy the success of winning both the Champions
League and the FA Cup in May.
Torres netted just 11 times in 49 appearances in
2011-12, spending the majority of the campaign
on the bench as Didier Drogba was preferred in
attack.
The Spaniard did net the decisive winner in the
Champions League semi-final against Barcelona,
but he had little impact off the bench as the Blues
defeated Bayern Munich on penalties in the final.
'The season was not for me, it was for others,'
'Chelsea wins the FA Cup but I don’t play the
semi-final nor the final. I didn’t taste anything.
'I feel I participated a bit more in the Champions
League but even so it was not the Champions
League I wanted to win, not like that. I want to win
another Champions League and in a different
way.'
Torres, who cost Chelsea £50million in January
2011, thanked Blues fans for sticking by him in a
season when he went six months without scoring.
'The fans helped me a lot - and you don’t
understand why,' he added.
'You come from outside and you have played well
in this league and, with the Spanish mentality, the
first who should have turned against you are the
fans. You are not living up to expectations but
they still support you. These people are special.
'At times I was thinking, "I will sit here on the
bench, I won’t make any noise, I don’t even want
to play." But they are demanding that you jump
on the pitch and play. They lifted my spirits so
many times. Not even my team-mates succeeded
in doing that in this way. Whatever I do from now
on will be for the fans.
'That is why I want to win another Champions
League. For them.'
Magic moment: Torres is mobbed after scoring
the winner against Barcelona
He told Spanish daily newspaper La Razon: 'I
lived things that had not happened to me before.
A new manager came in and he was hardly
counting on you and what you did in training
didn’t count either.
'You can’t do anything more but you’re not
playing. People encourage you whether you play
or not but I didn’t know what to do.
'I counted on the support of team-mates that are
on the bench, who don’t let themselves sink and
always give an example.
'Paulo Ferreira, the substitute keepers, the
youngsters whose progression has stopped. It
helped me to see the panorama sitting on the last
step.'
While Torres admitted that his price tag has been
a burden in his first 18 months at the club, he
feels as though he has 'arrived again' following a
goalscoring start to the season in the Community
Shield defeat to Manchester City and with a
starting place now virtually assured with Drogba
gone.
He added: 'You can think "Maybe Chelsea was not
the team". But if you are a great player, you have
to find your place, I’m not the first one to whom
this has happened.
Off to a flyer: Torres celebrates his strike
against Man City
'I think I didn’t know how to be a point of
reference there. And that is what I am trying to
achieve. I am obliged to succeed in making my
team-mates need me. When you arrive at a club
like this, what you had done up to that point
means nothing.
'It’s not a question of whether they welcomed me
or not it’s the fact you are just one more player.
It’s not a team or a club where they look at the
details - your gestures, how you train, how you
behave.
'No, you arrive there and you are one more of the
team. You only have to be a star on the pitch.
'They are veterans and they don’t have to give an
example. If I arrived now again for the first time, I
would do things differently.
'I would try to be one more of the team and adapt
to the situation. Now I know that from the first
day you have to think of yourself more and try to
demonstrate to your team-mates that you are one
more of them. I was paying attention more to
what was my place rather than worrying about
earning a place.'
Kings of Europe: Spain lift the European
Championship in Kiev
Torres, who became the first player ever to score
in consecutive European Championship finals as
Spain went on to retain their crown, also
expressed a frustration at being in and out of
manager Vicente Del Bosque's starting XI.
'My last objective was the national team but
during the months before the Euros I had been
left out of the squad once,' said Torres, who won
the golden boot in Poland and Ukraine.
'Suddenly I get minutes on the pitch and I take
advantage, there are rotations in the team
because of so many competitions, so I score and
I get in the squad for the Euros.
'I felt like a small child. And maybe it would have
been normal if I hadn’t gone with Spain.'

Diego Maradona wants China job

Argentine soccer great Diego Maradona has
underlined his desire to coach in China after
arriving in the country for an eight-day charity
trip, local media reported.
The 51-year-old, Argentina's head coach at the
2010 World Cup, was sacked by United Arab
Emirates club Al Wasl last month but appears
keen on a job in the Far East.
"I would like to coach in China," Maradona told a
news conference in Beijing, the China Daily
reported. "I wish to contribute to the
development of China's youth soccer."
One of Maradona's coterie of agents had sounded
out the Chinese earlier this year with a view of
eventually landing the national team job, the
newspaper said.
During his visit, Maradona, who led his country
to the 1986 World Cup as a player and is
regarded as one of the game's greatest ever, will
holds talks with Chinese FA boss Wei Di.
A controversial figure who has suffered serious
health issues and overcome drug addiction,
Maradona was fired as Argentina coach after
losing 4-0 to Germany in the quarterfinals of the
2010 tournament.
Chinese soccer has seen an influx of big-name
foreign players and coaches, including Sergio
Batista, the man who took over the Argentina job
from Maradona, now coach of Shanghai Shenhua.
The big-spending Chinese Super League club
boast former Chelsea strikers Nicolas Anelka and
Didier Drogba, while other clubs have also been
splashing the cash.
Shanghai's rivals Guangzhou Evergrande
appointed Italy's former World Cup winning
coach Marcello Lippi.

Messi, Ronaldo set to renew scoring duel

In the Spanish league alone, Messi scored a
record 50 times last season, while Ronaldo
almost kept pace with 46 goals, six more than the
previous league record that the Portuguese
forward established the year before. (AP Photo)
BARCELONA: It will be tough for Barcelona's
Lionel Messi and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo
to take their unprecedented scoring duel to even
greater heights after last season's record-breaking
performances.
But that doesn't mean they won't try.
In the Spanish league alone, Messi scored a
record 50 times last season, while Ronaldo
almost kept pace with 46 goals, six more than the
previous league record that the Portuguese
forward established the year before.
"I begin each season with the objective of
surpassing what I have done before," said Messi.
"I don't try to score more goals, I try to improve
as a player. I hope I still have margin to continue
growing and become a better footballer."
Messi shattered a string of records in 2011-12.
The 25-year-old Argentina forward scored 73
goals overall in 60 games for Barcelona, breaking
the mark of 67 set by Bayern Munich's Gerd
Mueller in 1973 and the prior world club mark of
70 established by Archie Stark of Bethlehem Steel
in the American Soccer League in 1925. He
became Barcelona's all-time leading scorer by
breaking a 57-year-old club milestone, and
equaled a Champions League record with 14
goals.
Ronaldo came close to matching Messi with 60
goals in 55 games in all competitions as he
powered Madrid to the Spanish league title and
its record point haul (100) and goals scored
(121).
"My immediate goals are to work as hard as I can
so I can fight with my team for all the titles
possible," said Ronaldo. "I want to keep getting
better because it is going to be a long season."
On Tuesday, the two rivals and Messi's teammate
Andres Iniesta were named as finalists for the
UEFA Best Player in Europe award.
Messi has won the award the past three years.
Ronaldo won it in 2008.
For Ronaldo's coach Jose Mourinho, his fellow
countryman should win this time.
"My idea is clear, football is a collective sport,"
Mourinho said. "Real Madrid won a very
important title and won it in spectacular fashion.
Those that make the difference on a great
champion team are the (best) candidates."
Messi refused to say if he felt he deserved the
award more than Ronaldo. Instead, he said he
would like to see it go to a Barcelona player.
"I would like to see the award remain for one
more year at Barcelona," he said.
The two scoring aces will soon meet in the
Spanish Supercup, to be played between Madrid
and Barcelona over two legs on Aug. 23 and 29,
one day before the winner of the award is
announced.
And if the battle for individual honors wasn't
enough added motivation, both players ended
last season with team and individual
disappointments despite their superb scoring
campaigns.
While Barcelona won the Copa del Rey, Club
World Cup and both the Spanish and European
Super Cups, it was dethroned by Madrid in the
Spanish league and lost to Chelsea in the
Champions League semifinals. Messi missed a
penalty in the second leg at home against the
eventual champion that would have sent the
Catalan club through.
Ronaldo, for his part, had a penalty saved in a
loss to Bayern Munich in the other Champions
League semifinal.
Messi said his goal is for Barcelona to return to
the top of both Spain and Europe.
"I hope so. We're upset with how we ended last
season with the loss to Chelsea and the loss to
Real Madrid in Camp Nou," he said. "Last season
is history. We begin from zero."
Without any international commitments this
summer for Argentina, Messi has enjoyed both a
longer than usual vacation and has been able to
get in a full preseason under Barcelona's new
head coach Tito Vilanova.
"Leo has come back strong," Barcelona's Javier
Mascherano said about his fellow Argentina
teammate. "This season you will see him start in
even better shape."
The Spanish league begins for both teams on Aug.
19 with Real Madrid hosting Valencia and
Barcelona hosting Real Sociedad.

Lionel Messi scores after penalty miss as Argentina outclass Germany

Lionel Messi missed a first-half penalty but
made amends with a superb second-half
goal as Argentina outclassed Germany 3-1
in a friendly in Frankfurt.
An own-goal by Sami Khedira gave
Argentina the lead in first-half stoppage-
time, Messi swept home the second early in
the second half and Angel Di Maria blasted
the third with an astonishing 35-metre
drive. Benedikt Hoewedes headed
Germany's late reply.
Germany played for nearly one hour with
10 men after their goalkeeper, Ron-Robert
Zieler, was sent off for hauling down José
Sand in the incident which led to the
penalty.
Marc-Andre Ter Stegen came on for his
second cap and, with his first touch, dived
to his left to save Messi's weakly taken
penalty in the 31st minute.
With a one-man disadvantage Germany
were easy prey for Argentina's diminutive
strikers and at one point it seemed the
South Americans might avenge their 4-0
quarter-final defeat at the World Cup.
Nothing went right for Germany, with
Marco Reus blasting a shot against the post
and Khedira's effort on the rebound
disallowed for offside.
Messi scored in his fifth international in
succession, a run which started in the 2-1
World Cup qualifying win in Colombia last
November and included hat-tricks against
Switzerland and Brazil.
Argentina have won those five games and
their coach, Alejandro Sabella, who took
over with the team at a low ebb after a
quarter-final exit at the Copa America
which they hosted last year, has put them
back on the rails.
There were plentiful chances at both ends in
the first half but Argentina got the break
when Khedira turned Di Maria's corner into
his own net in stoppage time.
Argentina brought on Sergio Agüero for
Sand at half-time and extended their lead
when Gonzalo Higuain, wearing a headband
after a clash in the first half, pulled the ball
back from the byline and Messi produced a
majestic left-foot finish.
Messi then missed when he was sent clean
through on goal but sent a characteristic
dink wide of the target.
Di Maria made it 3-0 with a stunning drive
in the 73rd minute, then Messi produced a
mesmerising run through the defence but
again narrowly missed the target.
Hoewedes pulled one back for Germany but
there was still time for Higuain to hit the
post.

» Neymar: "Cristiano Ronaldo is an idol and an inspiration to me"

Neymar has spoken a few words about the
Olympics games and the opportunity of
winning the football's gold medal for Brazil,
for the first time in the country's history.
However, there was still time for the Brazilian
prodigy to share a couple thoughts on
Cristiano Ronaldo and confess his admiration
for the Real Madrid star.
There seems to be a wide consensus about
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi being the
undisputed best players in the World for a few
years now. The Brazilian rising star, Neymar Jr,
doesn't have any problem in recognizing that he's
still far from both CR7 and Messi level, even
though he also hopes to reach the top in a near
future. Currently representing the Brazilian
National Team in the London Olympics 2012,
Neymar has high expectations for this Saturday's
final against Mexico, as this could be the first
time Brazil brings the gold medal in Olympics
football.
Neymar - 2012/2013:
In a short talk with some journalists that were
present at a press conference in London, to
preview this Saturday final between Brazil and
Mexico, Neymar started by leaving a few remarks
on Cristiano Ronaldo.
Neymar: "Cristiano Ronaldo is an idol to me and
I follow him closely since I started playing
football. He's a genius, one of the best players in
the World and he's on the same level as Lionel
Messi. For all of us who love football, Cristiano
Ronaldo is a true inspiration!", started by noting
the 20-years old talent, just before answering a
few questions about the upcoming Olympics
football final.
Neymar: "Winning a gold medal is always an
hard task, if not, Brazil would already have 20
medals. We're very close to achieve something
that several great names of this sport never
accomplished. We're here representing everyone
of them and all the Brazilians out there, who are
eager to see us bringing the gold medal home.
We're 90 minutes away from making history and
we're aware of that responsability. We all know
what's at stake this Saturday and how important
this game is", assured the still Santos FC forward.
Neymar: "I've never played at Wembley before,
which is definitely a place with a great history
behind. Unfortunately, neither Pelé has done it
and he is the best football player in history.
Returning home with the silver medal wouldn't be
a frustration, but rather a sadness. Now that we've
reached the final, we can't settle for the silver
medal, we have to be hungry for those golden
medal that are at stake. In any final, there can be
only one side winning the gold medal!", stated
Neymar Jr, who is very likely to be starring on
Brazil's line-up, this Saturday afternoon.
Regarding Neymar's future and despite the
immensity of rumors coming out over the last
months, it seems like the Brazilian is going to
remain playing in Santos FC for at least one or
two more seasons. As a curiosity, in a voting poll
we promoted here at Ronaldo7.net asking "Who
should Real Madrid sign for the attack the
Summer?", Neymar has actually been the first
choice for most of our visitors.

Beware Premier League: Tevez is back to his best, warns City coach Platt

David Platt has delivered a worrying message to Manchester City's Premier League rivals - Carlos Tevez is back to his best.
City managed to end their 44-year wait for a league title last term even though Tevez went AWOL for four months following a spat with manager Roberto Mancini over his role as a substitute against Bayern Munich.
Tevez eventually returned but though he helped stabilise a season which was losing momentum and claimed another championship medal, adding to the two he got at Manchester United, the Argentina star was generally a shadow of the player he had been before.
It was widely predicted he would leave this summer and at one point he was said to be on the brink of joining AC Milan.
Tevez remains at City though. And in Sunday's 3-2 Community Shield win over Chelsea at Villa Park, he delivered the kind of performance he is noted for.
His solo second-half goal put the Blues in front after they had trailed to Fernando Torres' opener and with less than a week to the opening game against newly-promoted Southampton, assistant manager Platt believes the signs are very encouraging.
'Carlos has worked ever so hard in pre-season,' he said.
'Since he has come back in he has really attacked his work and not had one day off.
'His goal was one of those you can remember him doing two years ago.
'He ducks inside, he goes away from people. That's what he's been missing and it was there again.'
Platt revealed Tevez had shrugged off a knock in training prior to the game, so determined was he to play in the fixture.
It was an example of the focus 28-year-old Tevez intends to maintain throughout the season after the difficulties of last term.
They have never been an issue amongst his team-mates and Platt feels it is time to move on from the controversy.
'A lot was said and done last year. Everybody has got to hold their hands up and say mistakes were made,' he said.
'But what do you do? Carlos has still got two years left on his contract.

Latest: Wayne Rooney to stay at United!

Wayne Rooney has signed a new contract to stay at Manchester United until June 2015!
The club confirmed the news, ending an amazing week, which included Rooney insisting the Old Trafford outfit no longer matched his ambitions.
Yet after a staggering 24-hour period, and demonstration by irate supporters at Rooney's house in Prestbury, Rooney is now set to stay at Old Trafford.
"Sometimes, when you're in a club, it can be hard to realise just how big it is and it takes something like the events of the last few days to make you understand," said Sir Alex Ferguson.
"I think Wayne now understands what a great club Manchester United is."
It barely seemed credible such a position could be arrived at so quickly.
But the conciliatory nature of a holding statement from United last night suggested rapprochement was in the offing.
And, after consultation with the owners, who allayed his fears about the future direction of United, Rooney agreed to extend his contract, which will now expire in 2015.
"It's been a difficult week, but the intensity of the coverage is what we expect at Manchester United," said Ferguson.
"I said to the boy that the door is always open and I am delighted Wayne has agreed to stay.
"I am pleased he has accepted the challenge to guide the younger players and establish himself as one of United's great players.
"It shows character and belief in what we stand for.
"I am sure everyone involved with the club will now get behind Wayne and show him the support he needs to produce the performances we know he is capable of."
Rooney recognises damage has been done, possibly inside the dressing room and certainly with the fans who have regarded him as one of their own since he first arrived from Everton in 2004.
He also understands the need to improve his form, which has suffered so badly since he sustained an ankle injury against Bayern Munich in March, the last time he scored a goal for his club in open play.
"I am delighted to sign another deal at United," he said.
"In the last couple of days, I have talked to the manager and the owners and they have convinced me this is where I belong.
"I said on Wednesday the manager is a genius and it is his belief and support that have convinced me to stay.
"I am signing a new deal in the absolute belief that the management, coaching staff, board and owners are totally committed to making sure United maintains its proud winning history - which is the reason I joined the club in the first place.
"I am sure the fans over the last week have felt let down by what they have read and seen.
"But my position was from concern over the future.
"The fans have been brilliant with me since I arrived and it's up to me through my performances to win them over again."

New Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova undaunted by Pep Guardiola’s winning legacy

BARCELONA, SPAIN—New Barcelona head coach
Tito Vilanova said he’s undaunted by the
challenge of following in Pep Guardiola’s giant
footsteps, while also recognizing that his chances
of being as successful as his mentor are slim.
Vilanova became Barcelona’s 16th head coach
Friday after signing a two-year contract with the
Spanish club, which Guardiola — with Vilanova’s
help as assistant — led to 14 of a possible 19
titles during an unprecedented run over past four
seasons.
“I am not worried about comparisons. I’m aware I
will lose all with Pep, but I am not here for that.
I’m here to work,” Vilanova said, adding that he
knows that with stars like Lionel Messi on his
squad his margin of error is almost nonexistent.
“I don’t ask the fans for patience, they will want to
see the team continue to win like it has in recent
years.”
Vilanova acknowledged that carrying on
Guardiola’s winning ways and mesmerizing
playing style will be a hefty challenge. But he
added that both his role in shaping the team and
his players’ hunger to keep adding to their trophy
haul should see the team through.
“I know that it will be difficult, probably no other
coach has taken over in this situation, after the
club’s most successive period ever,” said
Vilanova. “It will be very tough to repeat. (But) I
have an advantage because I formed part of the
team that won so many titles. This is a group of
players who have won everything but who want to
keep winning and maintain our way of playing.”
Vilanova appeared for his first press conference
as head coach minutes after signing his contract
with Barcelona president Sandro Rosell. He was
wearing in a dark suit as opposed to the athletic
wear he wore in the dugout beside the dapper
Guardiola.
And although he displayed the same calm
demeanour as his predecessor, Vilanova still
lacks Guardiola’s public flare, reading somewhat
nervously from notes at the beginning of his
presentation.
“Pep was the communicator, but we shared the
decisions,” he said in his low, monotone voice.
Like Guardiola, Vilanova’s roots lie deep in the
Catalan club.
As a teenager, Vilanova joined Barcelona’s “La
Masia” youth academy with Guardiola in 1984
and spent the next six years training alongside
his future sideline companion.
While Guardiola went on to become a key piece
of Johan Cruyff’s winning teams in the 1990s,
Vilanova only managed to play three unofficial
matches with the first team before moving on to
play for clubs such as Celta Vigo and Mallorca.
When a knee injury ended his playing career,
Vilanova returned to La Masia as a coach to help
bring up a generation of first-team players,
including Messi, Cesc Fabregas and Gerard
Pique.
After another stint away from the club, the 42-
year-old native of the Catalan village of Bellcaire
d’Emporda joined Guardiola as his assistant
when the former midfielder took over Barca B in
2007. Together they helped the team win
promotion to the second division and earned
themselves the chance to take over the first team
in 2008 after the exit of Dutch manager Frank
Rijkaard.
“I thank Pep for giving me the chance to come
back to Barca and work at his side,” said
Vilanova. “Thanks Pep for the past five years, my
friend, my brother.”
Guardiola refused to sign on for another season
this summer, saying he needed a break from
football.
Having never before sought the spotlight,
Vilanova is best known for his altercation with
Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho in last
season’s ugly Spanish Supercup clash when the
Portuguese manager poked him in the eye during
a team scuffle. Vilanova responded with a shove.
Vilanova said that as head coach he would not
lose his cool if Mourinho continues in his
abrasive manner.
“I will be very calm. I don’t get nervous,” he said.
“I think that the day of my presentation as head
coach it is not the moment to speak about other
teams or other coaches.”
The Spanish league opens on Aug. 18-19.
Barcelona will look to re-establish its dominance
of the domestic competition after losing the
championship to Madrid last season, breaking a
run of three consecutive titles.
Vilanova will miss the first game of the two-leg
Spanish Supercup as he serves a one-game
suspension for retaliating to Mourinho’s eye
poke. The Madrid coach received a two-game ban
and will therefore miss both matches to be
played in August when Barcelona looks to defend
its title.

Samir Nasri helps Manchester City win Community Shield against Chelsea

Manchester City played as though affronted
by Roberto Mancini's suggestion that they
might be only third or fourth favourites for
the title. They were devastating during a
second-half blitz when everything clicked
and all the damage was done against a
Chelsea side who must have found the
experience alarming in the extreme.
Those were moments when Roberto Di
Matteo's side were reminded why there
were 25 points separating these teams last
season and, on this evidence, we should
probably see beyond whatever message
Mancini was trying to send to the people
above him about City's chances of a
successful title defence, particularly now
they have started their summer spending
with the acquisition of Jack Rodwell from
Everton, for an initial £15m.
At least one more signing should arrive
before the transfer window closes and even
if Mancini remains dissatisfied, this was a
performance that suggests a confident and
strong team going into the new season.
Their squad is not flawless, something
brought home by the erratic goalkeeping of
Costel Pantilimon, playing in place of the
injured Joe Hart. But the point about this
City side is that they can menace even the
most accomplished defences, especially now
Carlos Tevez appears to be playing with a
clear head.
Chelsea, in truth, got off lightly just to lose
by the odd goal in five. To give them their
due, they had mitigating circumstances in
the form of Branislav Ivanovic's red card
late in the first half. Fernando Torres,
showing encouraging flashes, had opened
the scoring two minutes earlier but
Ivanovic, sliding in to challenge Aleksandar
Kolarov, was guilty of lifting his foot and
his studs went high into his opponent's shin.
It was reckless and foolish and his team
suffered the consequences.
For the first half an hour of the second
period City were magnificent, attacking
with width and penetration, scoring three
times in 12 minutes through Yaya Touré,
Tevez and Samir Nasri, and so dominant
they should probably have made it even
more of an ordeal for their opponents.
Touré and Nasri were the driving forces,
showing flashes of brilliance in a new
3-4-1-2 formation. James Milner subjected
Ashley Cole to one of his more difficult
afternoons and for John Terry in particular,
it was a demoralising experience. Terry's
weak clearance had given Touré the chance
to equalise but the Chelsea captain was also
subjected to chants about his recent court
case. They were loud and sustained and
could conceivably be the soundtrack to his
season.
City were a sight to behold once Touré had
buried an emphatic right-foot shot past Petr
Cech and, in the process, they made the
backs-to-the-wall defending that helped
Chelsea overcome Barcelona and Bayern
Munich in last season's Champions League
feel a distant memory. City's second goal, in
particular, was a beauty, Nasri slipping a
pass to Tevez who ducked along the edge of
the penalty area and evaded David Luiz and
Terry before firing into the top corner. Six
minutes later, Tevez released Kolarov on
the left and Nasri jabbed out a foot to
divert the cross past Cech. Rarely have
Chelsea been made to look so ordinary and
vulnerable.
The disappointment for City came in the
80th minute when Pantilimon lost the flight
of Daniel Sturridge's shot and allowed the
ball to dribble out of his hands for another
substitute, Ryan Bertrand, to score. Briefly,
there was the sense of an improbable
comeback, but there were only a few
anxious moments in front of the Romanian
goalkeeper. City, in fact, should have made
it four when Sergio Agüero turned wide the
easiest chance of the match and the
afternoon could have ended in ignominy for
Chelsea, with the referee, Kevin Friend,
deciding to be lenient when Frank Lampard
and Ramires committed fouls that might
ordinarily have enticed second yellow
cards.
Chelsea had their own grievances, not least
because City's Stefan Savic could have been
shown two yellows in the first half. Mancini
substituted the young centre-half at half-
time but Chelsea would be unwise to dwell
on Friend's officiating. The simple truth was
that City had passed the ball with much
greater incision and could regard
themselves as unfortunate to be losing at
half-time.
Torres took his chance well, collecting
Ramires's pass and scoring with a left-foot
shot inside the penalty area, and the
Spaniard's sharpness does at least
encourage the sense he might have an
improved season. Eden Hazard, however,
had an undistinguished introduction to
English football, notable mostly for an early
dive that should have seen him booked, and
then a comedic attempted backheel that
saw him miss the ball and fall over. He, like
Chelsea, will almost certainly improve.
Worryingly for the other title contenders,
so should City.

Barcelona Transfer Rumors: Alex Song Using Barca in Contract Ploy with Gunners?

If there is one thing you learn during
the transfer window, it's that you
either can't believe 90 percent of what
you read, or you need to read
between the lines to make sense of all
of the transfer rumors that fly about
the tabloids.
Such is the case with Arsenal's Alex
Song, who, it's been rumored, has
drawn wanting eyes from La Liga
powerhouse Barcelona
. But given some of the information
available, it seems just as likely that
Song (or his agent) has propagated
some of those rumors as a
negotiation ploy to extend his contract
with Arsenal.
There is this from Sky Sports (via Fox
Sports), for instance: "Song has two-
years left on his current deal at the
Emirates, but Sky Sports understands
he would like to extend that."
Or there's the fact that Arsene Wenger
has claimed that Barcelona have had
no contact with Arsenal about the
midfielder. From The Sun:
“There’s nothing going on
with Song. There’s nothing in
that. Song has three years
contract, he’s not in the same
situation as Robin Van Persie."
“In Spain the newspapers are
not really serious. We’ve had
the experience of that. We’ve
never had any contact with
anybody from Barcelona.”
Hmmm...Player wants a contract
extension. Rumors surface that one of
the most successful, top-spending
clubs in the world has interest in said
player. That level of interest in player
could naturally be leveraged by an
agent wanting a sizable weekly wage
for his player, wouldn't you say?
I can just hear the agent negotiating
now:
You don't want to pay higher wages
on an extension at this time? Oh, no
problem, we'll just wait on
Barcelona then; they have interest
in Alex. I'm sure they won't mind
giving him his worth in two years, or
before then when they come calling
for a transfer. Of course, we could
avoid all of that now while Alex's
terms are more favorable for
you...I mean, who wants to be
bidding against Barcelona?
I don't doubt that Barca has some
level of interest in Song. He's a
talented, box-to-box midfielder who
offers the versatility of being able to
play both as a holding midfielder and
as a more attack-oriented player who
facilitates the offense.

There's no way he would get as much
playing time at Barcelona as he does
at Arsenal—it's hard to imagine Song
displacing Xavi, Sergio Busquets,
Andres Iniesta or Cesc Fabregas—but
a number of the team's players have
expressed interest
in adding Song, so they would find a
way to incorporate him.
And why wouldn't they? The more the
merrier, right?
But I doubt these rumors derived with
an insider plugged into Barca's
management. If I were to guess, I
would say these probably started with
Song's agent.
Again, it's pure speculation on my
part—a bored Spanish sportswriter
may have decided to stir the pot, or
the rumors could derive from
legitimate Barca interest—but the
more I look at it, the more it seems
wholly beneficial for Song's future
earnings that Barcelona "has interest"
in him.
He'll be a Gunner for now and,
hopefully, for a long time after that.
One of the most improved players
over the years for the Gunners is also
one of the most important players for
the team right now, especially if Robin
van Persie is finally sold.
They would be crazy to let him go.
They know it, he knows it, his agent
knows it and, yes, Barcelona knows it.
But hey, why not put some ideas in
Wenger's head, right? It can't hurt
when any future contract discussions
take place, right?
Sure can't. It's just another reason
why the transfer windows in
European soccer are so much fun.
And why you need to take 90 percent
of what you read in August and
January with a grain of salt.

Chelsea: 6 Reasons Hulk's Drawn-out Signing Will Hurt His Time with the Blues

In the summertime, transfer rumors in soccer are more consistent than the sun actually shining.

And this year is no different with Chelsea, as always, right in the thick of things.

The three latest rumors include the Blues pursuing Inter Milan right back Douglas Maicon, Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetić and Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric.

But the big one which has Chelsea fans seemingly split down the middle is the attempt to land Porto’s Hulk, who seems to be be considering either a move to Stamford Bridge, Ligue 1 runners-up Paris Saint-Germain or just staying put in Portugal.

Time will tell and we all know how these speculative stories often end up. Remember the rumors of a Modric move to the Blues at this time last year?

Whereas the ultimate decision to sign the flashy Brazilian will come down to how much Chelsea is willing to pay for his services, how much PSG will offer and how much the flashy Brazilian’s agent Teodoro Fonseca can get for his client, the final decision will ultimately come down to the player.

This whole process has been, and will continue to be choppy, and I think in the long run it could really hurt Hulk’s time with the European champions if he does decide to eventually sign with Chelsea.

Chelsea midfielder Oscar feels 'huge disappointment' after Brazil defeat

Mano Menezes' team were heavy favourites going into the final of the tournament against Mexico at Wembley but Oribe Peralta's double sent the underdogs on their way to a 2-1 victory.

The Blues' new signing was made to settle for silver and rued missing the chance that could have dramatically pulled the Selecao level after Hulk had grabbed a goal in injury time.

Oscar failed to hit the target with a close-range header but also felt that Brazil had enough chances to level the score after Peralta's opener.

"It was a big chance at the end," Oscar told reporters. "It was not just the header, we had several other chances when the score was 1-0.

"I feel huge disappointment. I am very proud to have reached the final but we are so sad to not have achieved winning the gold medal."

Lionel Messi

In football, there have been few truly magnificent players.
Players like Alfredo di Stefano and Pelé, who captivated the world with their unbelievable goalscoring ability in the early days of professional football were followed by others with a similarly unique quality such as Diego Maradona and Johann Cruyff.
There have been numerous others who at specific points were referred to as the best players of their generation. However, following the reign of Ronaldinho, there have only been two players as unquestionably skillful and captivating as the previous greats.
Lionel Messi, the only man to win three back-to-back World Player of the Year awards, has at only 25 years old accomplished more with FC Barcelona, the Argentina U-20 and Olympic teams, and as an individual goalscorer than almost every player who came before him.

Messi, Iniesta & Cristiano Ronaldo Up for UEFA Best Player Award

Barcelona duo Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta along with Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo have been shortlisted for the 2011-2012 UEFA Best Player in Europe Award.
The three players gained the most points in a vote among 53 sports journalists representing each of the UEFA member associations, European football’s organising body said on Tuesday.
The award will be decided in a vote in Monaco during the Champions League group stage draw on August 30.
Messi, who won the award when it was introduced last year, is also the world player of the year for the past three years but this year the story is different it’s Cristiano Ronaldo is the no.1 contender for this award among top 3.
Positions four to 10 have already been established in the vote, with Italy’s Andrea Pirlo (Juventus) fourth, followed by Xavi Hernandez (Barcelona), Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Didier Drogba (Chelsea, now Shanghai Shenhua), Petr Cech (Chelsea) tied with Falcao (Atletico Madrid) and Mesut Oezil (Real Madrid).

Chelsea's players were ambling
into a ragged huddle while the
ground staff assembled
Manchester City's victory podium
when John Terry ushered
Fernando Torres to one side and
offered the Spaniard a
congratulatory clap on the
shoulder. This was the European
champions' fourth loss of a
stuttering pre-season, their
defence too often vulnerable
where only recently it had been a
source of strength, but the
captain could cling to one
positive. Early indications are
that Torres is ready to make his
mark at last.
It would be tempting to insist
that, for a player who cost a
British record £50m and is a
World Cup winner and twice a
European champion with Spain,
evidence of his undoubted
pedigree is long overdue. Just as
simplistic would be to suggest the
flashes of quality demonstrated
here, culminating in a cutely
taken finish beyond Costel
Pantilimon which earned Chelsea
a brief lead, should be considered
proof all will be well in the
months ahead. But such is the
urgent desire at Stamford Bridge
for Torres to succeed, as he once
did for Liverpool, that seeing him
with confidence so clearly
bolstered is seized upon as
reason for relief.
This has to be Torres's year. The
striker has been too peripheral
throughout his time in London,
shrunk in the shadow of Didier
Drogba, with those in the dug-out
and the stands alike waiting for
him to stir. There have been
occasions when he has flourished
– a hat-trick against Queens Park
Rangers, or that jaw-dropping
denouement at the Camp Nou –
but there has been little positive
consistency to his form.
Successive Chelsea managers
have praised his contribution on
the basis of assists rather than
goals accumulated. He was
bought as a scorer, not a
provider, and seven Premier
League goals in 46 appearances
tells its own story.
Now the environment feels more
favourable, his importance to this
team very obvious. He returned
to Cobham after an extended
break with Drogba departed for
China and as an unlikely golden
boot winner from Euro 2012. This
was his first 90 minutes of pre-
season and, where he had looked
so rusty in the defeat at Brighton
eight days previously, some of
the gliding menace of old seemed
restored against City. The goal,
pilfered with his left, was
converted in a blur. So flustered
was Stefan Savic that the
defender was hauled off at the
interval.
Admittedly, an ability to unsettle
the Montenegrin hardly serves as
confirmation the forward is back
to his best – Vincent Kompany
was less unnerved by his
presence – but Torres, too, will
sharpen his match fitness in the
weeks to come.
This was promising, and arguably
the European Cup winners' only
real cause for optimism. "He
moved very well," said Roberto
Di Matteo. "He was a danger, he
worked hard for the team, scored
a good goal …" The manager
quickly reverted to talk of the
strength of the collective when
asked if Torres would take on
extra responsibility this term
given that Chelsea, for all their
interest in Hulk, Radamel Falcao
or Edinson Cavani, lack
alternatives at centre-forward.
But the 28-year-old undoubtedly
feels more integral than ever.
In the immediate aftermath to
the Champions League final
success in Munich in May he had
bemoaned a lack of clarity in his
role. "The ideal for me for next
season is if someone tells me
what's going to happen," he had
said. "What role will I have in the
team? What function? What is
expected of me?"
This club's transfer policy since
has offered an answer, aimed as
it appears at eking form from
their record signing. A supply line
has been constructed at lavish
expense. Oscar will arrive after
Brazil's friendly in Sweden on
Wednesday. Marko Marin will
return soon from a hamstring
strain. Juan Mata will have more
of an impact than he managed
here. And then there is Eden
Hazard.
The Belgian, even at £32m, will
need time to settle in new
surroundings and offered only
hints of his ability on the ball
against City. There were flicks
and dribbles, and one horrible
nosedive face-first into the turf
after one backheel backfired. One
City fan dressed as Zippy from
Rainbow took to berating his
display, conscious that the league
champions had attempted to
secure the 21-year-old
themselves earlier in the
summer. Both were hauled from
this contest early, but Hazard will
have more productive days than
this. The hope, of course, is that
he finds rhythm quicker than
Torres did.
Di Matteo will demand the
striker's display here sets an
upbeat tone for the campaign
rather than prove another false
dawn. The Italian has other
problems to address after seeing
his side ship 13 goals in six pre-
season games, and he did not
need his forward-line proving
another headache ahead of
Sunday's trip to Wigan. This
latest defeat was arguably
warped beyond recognition by
Branislav Ivanovic's dismissal,
yet the consolation provided by
Torres's display still felt
significant. Chelsea will take
heart from that if little else.

Kaka close to Madrid exit as Real
make room for Modric
By talkSPORT

Kaka has reportedly agreed terms
with AC Milan - and that could smooth
the way for Luka Modric to complete
his move to Real Madrid.
The Brazilian has been linked with a
move back to the San Siro, where he
spent six years before moving to
Madrid for a fee of £59m in 2009.
And although Milan are yet to agree a
fee with Madrid for the 30-year-old,
SportMediaset have claimed that
personal terms have already been
negotiated.
That could impact on the protracted
saga of Modric's proposed move to
the Bernabeu.
Tottenham have refused to sell the
Croatian international unless Madrid
meet their asking price, which is
thought to be around £40m.
The Spanish side have so far failed to
do so, but if they can recoup around
£12m for Kaka they may be willing to
spend more on Modric.

Ronaldinho news

Ronaldinho is regarded by many as
the 'best player of the last decade'.
The Brazilian superstar has won
almost everything a footballer can win
in his career. He won the FIFA World
Player of the Year award twice in
consecutive years (2004 and 2005). He
also won the FIFA World Cup, the
Champions League and two Spanish
league titles. After playing in the
European circuit for a decade
Ronaldinho joined Flamengo in 2011
from AC Milan. He started his
European stint with Paris Saint-
Germain in 2001. But his real stardom
came in FC Barcelona where he
played for five seasons from 2003 to
2008. He won two La Liga title and a
Champions League title with the
Catalans. Ronaldinho played his first
international game for Brazil in 1999
and became a household name in the
2002 World Cup where he sizzled with
his skills and helped his national side
won the coveted trophy for the record
fifth time. During his stay at Barcelona,
Ronaldinho started to accumulate a
host of personal awards. He won the
inaugural FIFPro World Player of the
Year in 2005 and later named the
2005 European Footballer of the Year.
Then he won his second FIFA World
Player of the Year in the same year.
Ronaldinho won his second FIFPro
World Player of the Year in 2006 and
also finished third in the 2006 FIFA
World Player of the Year, behind
World Cup-winning Italian captain
Fabio Cannavaro and Frenchman
Zinedine Zidane.
